Papier Mache Doll

Our groups been working on a papier mache doll for months now. It is a long arduous process and not for the meek. A few times, I felt like giving up a long the way, thinking I'd never get it finished... but finally I've got mine all costumed and ready for her debut.

More Progress on the doll... Costuming begins

Well, she's finally all together, head, hands, feet, body...sanded... endlessly... gesso applied and sanded, and gessoed and sanded... I said endlessly right? and finally painted. Now my favourite part! Costuming. She still has a long way to go. More beading, a skirt, a flounce or two and a hat... no hair I think... we'll see...

The Papier Maché Project

We've all been working for months on a Papier Maché technique with Lydia and have been have a whole lot of fun.
I must admit for me it has been a real struggle waiting so long to get her finished. This technique is not for the impatient get-to-the-end doll maker like me but I must admit that I've learned alot, and it's been a wonderful project.
Thanks Lydia for sharing!!

Here's my dolls' progress!

New Wendy Froud Sculpting Video

Last year I ordered Wendy Froud's Creating a Faery Figure from the World of Froud's Goblin market. I went back to visit a few days ago to see what was new and found that she has a new sculpting video out. This one on Characters.

Creating a Character Figure
with Wendy Froud
$45.00
In this two-disc DVD workshop, renowned artist Wendy Froud explains and demonstrates how to create a character figure of your own design. Wendy reveals her process in step-by-step detail, beginning with a discussion of how to use reference to inspire the look and feel of your designs. She sculpts three different character heads, covering a variety of techniques for giving personality to your figure including facial expressions, wrinkles and lines. After painting each head and discussing ways to add skin detail such as age spots, she chooses one head to turn into a full character. Wendy then covers sculpting hands and feet, fabricating the body and costuming the character complete with boots, hat and staff. This DVD is meant to follow Wendy’s first DVD Creating a Faery Figure and focuses on character sculpting and costuming without the same emphasis given to body fabricating.

Topics Covered:
Using Reference
Making an armature
sculpting the head
Sculpting wrinkles and lines
Painting Face details
applying hair
Fabricating the body
Costuming
finishing the figure

DVD's will ship on or before January 12.
